Ancient Sound

Paul Klee, Ancient Sound Abstract on Black 1925
oil on cardboard 38 x 38.5cm, Kunstsammlung, Basel

There is something so humble and modest and true about Klee, and his work speaks to something I find difficult to express in words.  I feel this way about Arshille Gorky as well.  Their works remind me of the primacy of my own language as a painter, and the inner dialogue that runs beneath the working process and the creative act itself.
